Clearing 2024. Your Guide to Securing a University Place and Finding the Perfect Accommodation
Results day can be stressful, especially if things don’t go as planned. But don’t worry, if you didn’t get the grades you hoped for or have changed your mind about your university choices, Clearing offers a great opportunity to find the right course and university for you. Here’s everything you need to know about Clearing 2024 and how to secure comfortable, convenient student accommodation with Project Student.
Understanding Clearing
Clearing is a vital part of the university admissions process, helping universities fill available course places and allowing students to find new opportunities. In 2023, 38,140 students secured their university places through Clearing. Notably, 32% of these students found places after declining their original firm choice, while 30% entered Clearing after not meeting the conditions of their initial offers – so even if you are disappointed and don’t get into your first choice University, you have ample opportunity to find the right course. This year, Clearing runs from 5th July to 25th September for undergraduate applications.
Who Can Apply Through Clearing?
You can apply through Clearing if:
- You applied after 30th June
- You didn’t receive any offers or any offers you wanted to accept
- You didn’t meet the conditions of your offers
How to Apply for Clearing
UCAS offers a service called Clearing Plus, which matches you to courses based on your application details. However, it’s still a good idea to search for courses yourself on the UCAS website or individual university websites. Many universities also offer live-streamed tours to help you get a feel for the campus before making a decision.
To apply, you’ll need to:
- Search for courses through UCAS or university websites.
- Contact universities’ Clearing hotlines with your details ready:
- UCAS ID
- Clearing number
- Personal statement
- Results
- Any questions you have
When a university offers you a place through Clearing, the offer will appear on your UCAS application. Confirming this offer secures your place, but if you change your mind, you’ll need to contact the University to discuss your options.
