University open days are a great opportunity to find out which University is the perfect fit for you. It’s an exciting time and a great chance to explore your options.
They can be long, overwhelming and pretty hectic. So, to get the most out of your visit, we’ve put together some top tips to consider before you travel.
Research and make a plan
Research into campus tours, accommodation tours, and course talks taking place throughout the day. Which ones are most important to you?
Make a note of the time they start and prioritise. You can then plan the rest of your day around these. Don’t forget to give yourself enough time to get from one place to another!
Whilst you’re visiting a new city, it is also worth looking at your options for accommodation. Student halls aren’t right for everyone. Find out which ones are open and book an appointment to view.
Explore the city
Allow time during your day to explore the city and get a feel for the energy. Is it somewhere you want to live?
This could be the place where you spend 3+ years, you need to make sure you can see yourself living there.
Take someone with you
Invite a friend or family member to go with you. Share your experience and thoughts. They may also pick up on things you missed. It’s always great to get another opinion.
Don’t be afraid to ask questions
Go with questions in mind. And don’t be afraid to ask current students as you’re wandering around the campus.
There will also be student ambassadors so you can find out as much as possible and get their insight into studying at the university.
Score your day
Make notes. Rate everything. The campus, the course, the accommodation and even the city. You could even write up a list of pros and cons to refer back to. Try and do it straight after your visit so it’s all fresh in your mind.
Check out Project Student
We might be a little biased here. But we’d be silly not to include this one. We have student accommodation in Leicester, Newcastle, Lincoln, Exeter, Coventry, Bangor and Sheffield. So, if you’re interested in any of these cities, give us a shout!
