So… What’s Clearing, and Who’s It For?
Clearing is UCAS’s way of matching you with university courses that still have places. You can use Clearing if:
- You applied after 30th June
- You didn’t get any offers (or declined them)
- You didn’t meet the conditions of your offers
- You’ve changed your mind about your uni
Clearing opens on 5th July and runs until 25th September 2025, but results day (14th August) is when most activity kicks off.
How to Prepare for Clearing 2025
- Make a Plan (Just in Case) Start researching courses and universities that you’d be happy to attend before results day. Have a shortlist of universities and courses that interest you and check their typical entry requirements. Save the Clearing hotline numbers too.
- Write or Update Your Personal Statement Some universities will ask to see your personal statement during the Clearing process, especially if you’re applying to a different subject than before. Keep it relevant, short and ready to tweak.
- Know Your UCAS Login Details You’ll need your UCAS ID, Clearing number, and results on hand to secure an offer quickly. Have all of this information ready the night before results day.
- Be Ready to Call Clearing is competitive. When you spot a course you like, call the university directly. Be confident, polite, and prepared to explain why you want to study the course.
- Check for Uni Open Days or Virtual Tours Many universities offer campus tours or live streams during Clearing. These are a great way to get a feel for the place before you accept a last-minute offer.
